Mauritius has named their selection for the COSAFA Cup Zambia 2013, bringing players with good experience to the regional showpiece tournament. Le Club M is set on fire for this tournament.
Coach Akbar Patel, who led the side at the last COSAFA Cup tournament held in Zimbabwe in 2009, has opted largely for tried and trusted player, with a few notable youngsters thrown in.
Veteran skipper Colin Bell will lead the side.
Among the youngsters to look out for are striker Gurty Calembé, centre-back Cedric
Permal and midfielders, Luther Rose and Christopher l’Enclume. Also some promising experience players like the twin-brothers Pithia, Christopher Bazerque and Percy Buckland.
Mauritius has been drawn in Group A at the COSAFA Cup Zambia 2013 and will take on Namibia and Seychelles for a place in the quarterfinals, where South Africa awaits.
Mauritius caused arguably the biggest upset in COSAFA Cup history in 2004 when they beat South Africa, who had a full-strength team headed to the African Nations Cup finals in Tunisia, in the first round in Curepipe.
The Club M will be arriving in Lusaka, Zambia on Tuesday 2nd of June at night. As preparations for this tournament, the Islanders won three friendly matches against a local Mauritian clubs and a selection of foreigners playing other there.
In this COSAFA Cup 2019, Mauritius has been drawn in the group A with with only two other teams as Equatorial-Guinea has been withdrawn. The Club M will launch this competition on Saturday 6th of July against the Namibians.
